Reiki and Claiming the Empty Spaces
I certainly hope this message finds you all doing well and unwinding from a full summer. I can not believe we are in September already. Before you know it, we will all be out shopping for the holidays. Yikes! Now is really a good time to begin thinking about your holidays, sharing and planning for the fall and winter season. Plan something new, an adventure, holiday gathering or something new for your family time.

I recently returned from a great trip in Ohio and New Jersey. Summer has been quite interesting to say the least. The entire year has been in a shift of energy for everyone. During this time I experienced ‘idle time’ sitting out on the waters of Lake Erie and was able to reflect filling the empty spaces that lied within me with positive thoughts and energy; which in turn, allowed me to have clear thoughts to create and move forward with my Reiki and Intuitive Communications projects that have been sitting idle.
I noticed in doing Reiki and Intuitive Readings this summer, that many people are in the same boat and at times it feels as if our boats are just floating idle in the powerful waters. Hang in there because the whole year will not be a wash out, Numerology tells me that it’s an ‘eleven year’ which is a year that will bring challenges to all of us. There have certainly been challenges and lessons for just about everyone I know. The gift of lessons surrounding each challenge we face will come forward. It always does, the experience is truly the gift of wisdom.
Many of my clients have mentioned feeling stuck lately. While this is understandable, I believe the experience of feeling stuck is actually an illusion. We all have an abundance of gifts, skills, talents and abilities, both conscious and subconscious; available to help us transform our lives in dynamic ways at any point. Yet we often allow these abilities to lay dormant as we follow the easier or more frequently traveled path in our life. A well-traveled path can still lead you to the same dead end. A familiar road is not always a safe road. It is this type of automatic living that robs you of your nature state of vibrancy and joyfulness, leaving you feeling dull and restless, even bored.
Claim the idle time in your life and the empty space within, step outside your patterns and habits to create new experiences.
I invite you to recognize that in every moment, the Universe is sending you an invitation to live the life you are meant to live. It is up to you to accept. How do you accept this invitation? The answer is simple; it’s through your intention and by your actions.
So, with that said, I invite you to say “yes” to the unexpected opportunities in your life. Especially if they scare you to your core! Then see where the path takes you, one step at a time.
For example, events or situations can change your day in just a moments notice. Let’s say, you’re just about to leave for your hair appointment, when you receive a phone call saying the stylist has been called out on emergency and will have to reschedule your appointment. Congratulations! You are the winner of one unexpected free hour! What will you do with your winnings?
Ever consider doing nothing? Reclaiming the Empty Spaces?
If you’re like many of us today, the thought of doing absolutely nothing for an entire hour seems as wasteful as throwing a week’s worth of groceries out with the garbage. I see vibration of panic daily….. And free time with nothing to do can generate near panic among many who are overloaded and time-starved. “We seem to have a complex about busyness in our culture,” Most of us do have time in our days that we could devote to simple relaxation, but we convince ourselves that we don’t.”
And yet, the harder we push, the more we need to replenish ourselves. “Each of us needs some time that are strictly and entirely our own, and we should experience it daily, filling the Empty Space that lies within”
The importance of this downtime cannot be overstated. We see more clearly, we hear more keenly, we’re more inspired, we discover what makes us feel alive. By habit, we often fill the empty space within with stress, chaos, disappointment or anger by days end.
On some level, you know this already. But claiming time to yourself–time that is often labeled “unproductive”–and sticking to it can be difficult. You need to establish formal boundaries around your idle time to ensure that others and “you” honor this time.
Some ways to do this are:
- Make a date with yourself. Get to know someone who deserves your attention–you.
- Stand firm. Learn how to say “no” to co-workers, children, a spouse or a friend. In just a short while, you can say “yes,” but now is your time.
- Be clear about your needs. It’s not, “I need more time to myself.” It’s more like, “I’d like to spend 30 minutes by myself in the morning before everyone gets up.”
- Be on the lookout for stolen moments. Use the canceled hair appointment to sit on a park bench or the beach.
- Practice doing nothing. “Doing nothing” is an art, and like all art you need to practice it to reach your highest potential.
How we define idle time varies by individual. For example, for one person, gardening may be meditative downtime, whereas for another, the beach, woods, ocean, lake or mountains are all great places to go to reflect and gather your thoughts, an opportunity to be in and with nature; or it’s a great time for a power walk or sit in your car while listening to your favorite music. Yet for others, a new or different experience, meditation in one of it’s many forms and the practice of Reiki; whether it is sharing in a Reiki Circle, a spiritual gathering or a self Reiki treatment, claim your idle time, a great secret to a productive life.
The practice of Reiki has taught me that in the chaos of everyday living it continues to clear my thoughts, energy and bring balance and clarity to my life and those around me. As a Reiki Teacher, it is important to take care of myself first, to be centered and clear in my thoughts, but I also had to learn this, it is not something society told me to practice daily.
Your idle time should pose no “to do list” or obligations: it may seem to have no purpose. It’s just there. And yet, your idle time will bring the most purpose into your day; it refreshes you, recharges you, brings balance and clarity to your thoughts and actions and will fill the empty spaces within, a great form of self-love.
Life can often feel like you’re on an out-of-control treadmill as you try your best to keep up with a pace that feels uncomfortable to maintain.
The irony of this treadmill of life, is realizing it may only stop when you do. By pausing, you are now free to take a deeper look into the world surrounding you, inviting the wisdom of infinite truth to reveal itself as you begin to learn what deeper meaning hides in the form of your reality.
This deeper meaning changes how you view the external world which now becomes the gift surrounding the hidden treasures of love the universe offers to you in every present moment.
Do something that has no purpose other than joy. Take a half-hour a day to surprise, delight and bring balance your life. Keep it simple, and keep it consistent. It’s stunning, how refreshing and simple it really is.

Hi,
ReplyOne of the biggest lessons I have learned is if you don’t take care of yourself first, the universe will ask you to in increasingly challenging ways to you fall apart and are forced to care for yourself. This has been my full time job for the past 10 years after being knocked on my butt with illness and disabled from it. Take the time now so you wont have to work so hard on it later.
Namaste’ Linda, Thank you for sharing with us! You are so right in that we must learn ’self-love and self-worth’ must come first…. sending you positive and loving energy…..

ReplyHello Kimberlee
I feel very passionate about reiki ,and with reiki the empty space is always present.
And always ready to be claimed , and it is part of our being .I believe that taking the time to appreciate all that we are is essential for healing to occur in all levels; life is always sending us great messages ,if we would only listen to them ! With vision and clarity , then perhaps, less strugles and, less chaos with existe.

Namaste’ Filomena, Beautifully said, thank you for sharing! It is a learning process to receive and become aware of the universes messages-
Reply@Linda Andrus:Wow Linda, you hit the nail on the head when you said that the Universe will make you fall apart!l I’ve been trying for years to get back to making my idle time productive and now my idle time has disappeared. I’m not sure where it went, but I want it back
I really, really dumbed down my résumé to get an awful job and I’m on-call all the time. That’s where the time went!!! I’m waiting on the opportunity to move on and get back to my life and I’m going to use my idle time to direct my energies to that goal!
