Creating Joyful Memories…..

Posted December 16th, 2008

During the holiday season, I find is a powerful opportunity to address all the good memories I have; memories of deceased loved ones or memories from childhood, whether they are all good or bad, today I have a choice as to how I perceive them. So how about taking some time to address all the good memories we have and be thankful for the lessons from the hurtful ones.

Getting your first car, puppy, graduating, falling in love or having a child are life’s precious moments. When we make love happen, we allow our soul to grow beyond all the thorns of bad memories.

Unlike replacing harmful habits with healthy patterns, you can’t just swap a hurtful memory with a pleasant one. When you take a balanced look at the positive and the negative in your life, then you can take pride in not only what you’ve overcome, but what you’ve become due to the years of situations you have experienced.  Experience gives you an abundance of wisdom.

I have had several clients visit me with a similar situation…….They are divorced and fear being alone, especially during the holidays. Let’s look at this situation closer……love and pain teaches life lessons.

  • There was a time when life was happy, loss takes time: you can and will recapture happiness without remorse or pain.
  • Refuse to substitute a ‘false’ sense of security for happiness as you are learning not to be afraid of being alone and continuing your journey.
  • Know that it is a process and opportunity to grow spiritually. Spiritual growth is self-realization; your relationship is a learning process…
  • You have been loved and know that you can love……
  • Love is just one gift among many you received during your marriage
  • Children , experience, wisdom, knowledge and self-realization

The spouse or relationship you remember from the past no longer exist. The events, the celebrations, the disapointments from the past: Gone. Today is the privilege we are given.

  • Do not hold onto negative energy. Create a productive way to expel the negative “flare-ups,” take a walk, hit a few pillows, write in your journal, call in the Reiki energy and take a few deep breaths….then approach the situation at hand. Do not harbor angry thoughts and resentments, they will manifest themselves in your physical body and create dis-ease.
  • Worry blocks our flow of energy and takes us out of the present moment. If we find ourselves in imminent danger, we need to take immediate action. Otherwise, we find ourselves worrying about the past we can’t change or a future we can’t know. Worry slows down the flow of energy, restricting our ability to solve problems or meet our challenges.
  • By changing our thoughts, we can see every circumstance as a possibility to grow and an agent of change. The truth is, hard knocks are hard knocks. We need to take whatever action we can and move on. In time, most people look back and say that everything happened in the right order and resulted in the highest good for all concerned.
  • When we can recognize the gifts we have and know that we are honoring and respecting those gifts, we have much for which to be grateful. Gratitude is our greatest weapon against hard times. We need to remind ourselves of our daily gifts, the simple things…food, home, family and friends, just to name a few. By daily focusing on gratitude, eventually the doors to our blessings will open wide.
  • Honor everyone for the part they play in your life; friends, family, acquaintances, and animals. They are your companions and teachers, all playing their part in your life experiences. All come into your life as teachers; Even our enemies promote our spiritual growth.

Your difficult relationships are likely to be your spiritual mirror, reflecting back to you the areas you need to work on. As you honor and respect others, you will be better able to honor and respect yourself. Take some time out, release the fear; take a hot bubble bath, long weekend, read a good book…. The Secret Of Reiki E-book offers guidance to meditation and healing…..Maybe you’d like to start there….

Take a Deep Breath….

Enjoy Today, be Present and Thankful for your experiences and everything you have learned. Some of the most difficult times in my life have proven to be a precious gift of experience and wisdom!

Celebrate Today and the Holiday Season!
