HERE COMES THE JUDGE!

Posted November 29th, 2008

It’s so easy to judge isn’t it? What I mean is, don’t you find it easy to make judgments about situations and other people, when in actual fact, there is quite a high chance that your judgment is…..well, unjust? I know myself how terribly quick I am to judge others and when I notice, correct myself immediately.
Not only are we likely to be inaccurate in our assessment, but we also harm ourselves. By categorizing, classing, positioning, comparing and assessing others in a critical or judgmental way, we are limiting our view and excluding possibilities that things may be otherwise. You also create negativity towards your subject and towards yourself. Criticism and judgment can be so limiting and damaging, as it’s likely to be laced with a negative emotion full of ‘the fear vibration’, blocking your energy to flow efficiently.  You may also be projecting your own prejudices, negativity and limitations onto others.

The negative judgments that can so easily be made about others, say far more about the person making the judgment than about the one who is being judged.  Wow!  Talk about needing a Reiki treatment after a conversation….

I had a conversation with a friend during the holiday that prompted this blog today. We were discussing the beautiful wedding of a mutual friend who was married this past summer, my friend and others question if they should stay married?   I had commented “let’s be careful not to judge them so quickly”, but my friend immediately said that ‘everyone’ is against the marriage. I asked why?  I was told the general view was that he just married her for her family money and that he was not good enough for her.  Well this judgment in conversation shifted the energy in the room, so I quickly chose to let it go and not ‘judge’ another’s opinion.
But on considering this again later, I thought it terribly unfair to judge these ‘souls’ and be so harsh. The people who concurred with this view of them, most certainly do not have the relationship with them that they have with each other.  How could they? Unless they have all had a friendship, romantic, loving, sexual, caring, committed relationship with them (which I doubt!) how could they know them from my friend’s perspective? He will certainly have seen another side to them.
In such a relationship the dynamics are different; the closeness, intimacy, trust and security bring out deeper parts of our personalities and spirituality.  They could easily be the most wonderful partners.  How can we possibly see them from their perspective, or for that matter, any other person from another’s standpoint?
It is interesting the people and conversations that occur during the holiday season… you see and meet up with people you may only see a few times a year… it is truly a great way to measure your personal spiritual growth.
Their ‘relationship’ may or may not be favored or forever, but it does exist, so how is it our or anyone else’s concern?

  • If it’s right for them, do we judge them for what’s good for them?
  • Does this issue harm you, threaten you and in what way?
  • Are you responding & re-acting to a family, social or religious belief?

The only time that we’ve got….is right now.  I write this so you may be aware of how you excerpt your energy and notice how it may affect you?
Marriages will continue to exist with or without the permission or approval of others, so where does the fear or judgment come in?  They may be happy, successful and ‘spiritual’ - if being spiritual is “self-realization’ by definition…
Wiki-pedia

  • Spiritual matters are thus those matters regarding humankind’s ultimate nature and purpose, not only as material biological organisms, but as beings with a unique relationship to that which is perceived to be beyond both time and the material world.
  • Spirituality as a way of life concerns itself with aligning the human will and mind with that dimension of life and the universe that is harmonious and ordered.
  • A spiritual practitioner seeks to become free of the lesser ego-self (or ego) in favor of being more fully one’s “true” “Self”.

If you can find happiness within yourself, and also with another then you’ve got a big part of what life’s about. Health, well-being and happiness are a personal choice and journey, you don’t have to approve but be careful judging others before walking in their shoes and judging their journey!  Namaste’
