Starting A Reiki Business !?!

Posted October 30th, 2008

Reiki as a Business- not everyone trained in Reiki desires to use it as a means to make a living, in fact, most learn Reiki for their personal journey and healing. I have been asked for guidance by several new Reiki practitioners on the subject of “Reiki as a Business”,

If you are thinking about setting up a Reiki practice there are some things you’ll want to consider before you get started. Several massage therapists that become Reiki practitioners have done very well incorporating both healing modalities.  Serving as a healer can be a very satisfying career.  Participate in your community, call on other “like minded” people, create a niche, networking and referrals are essential to creating a client base.

·      Reiki Community- Make a list of where “like minded people” hang out, and get out to meet them.  For example; massage schools, beauty schools or salons, holistic food markets, advertise with chiropractors, visit local support groups or networking groups, senior centers, seminars, workshops and free local walk-a-thons, etc…hand out your flyer or business cards.  Start a Reiki circle, a meditation circle for practitioners and invite those who are curious (or attend an existing one)  in your community to network with others with the same interests and talk to those who are new to Reiki.

·      Create a Niche- Set yourself apart from others in your Reiki Community, do you offer something more than a Reiki treatment?  For example: massage, reflexology, spiritual mentoring, intuitive readings, guided meditations, Reiki circles- incorporate your modalities.  You may want to take the time to learn other forms of alternative and holistic healing. While Reiki is considered an effective form of healing on its own, performing several other treatments along with Reiki can greatly increase public interest in a clinic or healing business. As a multitalented Reiki practitioner, you will have the ability to assist many people with their personal needs, healing journey and promote your business.

·      Networking is the number one way to create and increase your Reiki business.  Meeting other Healers with a vast variety of healing modalities is a great way to give and receive referrals in your Reiki Community.  Working together, learning about the gifts others offer and teach others what you offer, this will provide you with information to assist anyone in need, and in return, other practitioners will provide you with clients who are in need of “your specialty or niche”.

·      Referrals for example; If I have a client who wants a massage, I refer them to Stacy, who incorporates massage and Reiki together in one session.  I refer people to Jamie if they would like a facial and she offers them  a Reiki treatment with their facial.  If a client would like an Intuitive Reading or Reflexology with their Reiki session, Stacy and Jamie refer them to me.  We network together along with several others in the local Reiki Community by talking about each others practices and services offered in the community, key word is “offer”, teach your clients, you will be amazed at the spike in interest and business.   Take the word “competition” out of your mind set and replace it with “networking.” By the “law of attraction”, you can call in the “healing” or call in “competition”  be aware of where your mind-set is… there are more than enough people and niches for everyone to have a successful practice.

Reiki Practitioners-Code of Ethics

· Practice the Healing Power of Reiki to do no harm.
· No gossip
· Be confidential and maintain the highest standards of professional and personal conduct.
· Refuse to participate in unethical procedures, maintain your standards.
· Be honest with your clients, offer the best services and information
· Do not exceed your scope of practice, either in abilities or by law
· Be up-to-date on all information, continue to educate yourself

· Legal Matters- Depending where you live, your certification might not be enough when it comes to legally offering professional services in “your area”. Some U.S. states require a license to practice natural health therapies. Because Reiki is a spiritual healing art you may be required to become certified as an ordained minister. Making phone calls to the local chamber of commerce or city hall is a good way to begin your fact-finding mission.

·      Reiki Consent It is good business practice to ask new clients to sign a Reiki consent form, usually provided by the institution you are working with, or you can create one.  This informs your client in writing that Reiki is not a substitute for seeking professional health care.

(Example)
I, the undersigned, understand that the Reiki session given involves a natural hands-on method of energy balancing for the purpose of pain management, stress reduction, and relaxation. I understand very clearly that these treatments are not intended as a substitute for medical or psychological care.

I understand that Reiki practitioners do not diagnose conditions, nor do they prescribe medicines, nor interfere with the treatment of a licensed medical professional. It is recommended that I seek a licensed health care professional for any physical or psychological ailment I have.I understand that the practitioner will be placing hands on me during the Reiki session.

Client Name (signature)                               Date                                         Reiki Practitioner

Charging a fee determines the depth of the client’s commitment to being treated. While Reiki is universal, charging clients to perform a Reiki treatment or any other healing modality is no different then any other service you pay for, massage, manicures, hair cuts, facials and hundreds more.  The usual fee for a Reiki treatment is usually $75.00-$200.00 per session, but this can vary depending on the area you live and the services, “you”, the Reiki Practitioner is providing.

Consistence is the life-line to your Reiki practice.  Set a schedule and stick to it.  Some weeks slower than others to start off….  You will be amazed at how your consistence will pay off.  Best Wishes and Blessings!
