Meditation….. Another Form Of Awareness
Which of the following people are meditating?
- A housewife doing dishes?
- A man mowing the lawn?
- A teenager putting on her makeup?
- A guru sitting in the lotus position with his lunch on his lap?
The answer: Let’s say; everyone but the guru- he’s eating his lunch. Yes, the others are really in a “form” of meditating. (actually the guru could be also!) Meditation is such a simple thing, yet we often seem to foul it up by making it out to be more than it is. It is often believed to use meditation, you needed to be without distractions to sustain it. With all of life’s distractions; busy schedules, children, pets and many other responsibilities it is vital that you learn many “forms” of meditation. Yes, even taking deep breathes, and with intention, feeling your energy calming down, your breath flowing through your body and each chakra while you finish the dishes, wash the car, mow the lawn, take a shower and so forth.
As a Reiki Master who needed a delicate balance of introspection for my work, I have learned to create and fit in several “forms” of meditation through out my busy day, along with my personal quiet time or when preparing for a session. I once heard that a simple “form” of meditation is “just listen”, I gotta share with you- that works too! Gradually I trained myself to reach high levels of concentration despite all the interferences. It strengthened me and taught me a lot about the nature of meditation. Now, that is not to say that your morning meditation or quiet time should diminish, I am simply offering you another “form” of meditating throughout your day to maintain balance and harmony within your energy bodies.
There are those who find meditation at a deep level of detachment on a permanent basis as an exit from life here at earth school… it feels so good for them to leave their worries behind and avoid responsibility. They get to the point where they are spending more and more time in a deep meditative state, not because of the awareness it offers, but because they can thereby avoid facing their responsibilities, situations or problems on this plane of existence. Not everyone has the privilege to spend hours everyday in such a state, be aware of your responsibilities. After all, what good is it to stay in such a state if it couldn’t be used to enhance your everyday living. As long as you are in physical manifestation, you’d better learn to live in balance here. That is our goal, isn’t it? Balance! If this is what meditation is all about, how can anyone teach you- what works for you. Moments of meditation through out the day, a morning meditation, an evening meditation, different forms of meditation at different times for different people in different situations…. You can achieve it naturally when you don’t scare it away by making a big thing of it. All you need to learn is how to get “there” more often and more easily. Basically, be responsible and aware, breathe… your mind and body will communicate with you, no two people are the same. Use all forms of meditation in your life, but understand just that, many forms will bring you back to center and balance.
